gardening

Megs and I will attempt to be "super gardeners" this year. Mind you we've never had a garden, let alone 3 planted months apart so we harvest for about 4 months straight. Plot #1 is planted, and #2 is almost ready to be tilled. I haven't finished the rough cutting for #3 yet. We don't have an actual machine meant for rough cutting, so we weed whack the whole plot, then rake it, then mow it with our push mower on the highest setting, then rake it again, then lower the mower setting 1 notch and mow, then rake, and so on until we're down to almost nothing on the ground but dirt and mulch-able clippings. Plot #1 is 10' by 15'. Plot #2 will be about 30' by 30' and the same goes for plot #3. I want #2 to be dedicated to sweet corn, nothing else. Plot #3...we're kind of undecided on so far.

WORS #2 in Lake Geneva this weekend. It'll be my second mtn bike ride of the year. I'm prepared to suffer.

may i suggest that you add kitchen herbs to your garden? they're super easy to grow and make you look all professional when you cookything you cook.

basil, cilantro, and parsley grow easily from seed. oregano and chives will grow back every year. rosemary and thyme are also excellent choices. and if you grow mint, put it in a pot, because it will spread and take over everything.

did you do all that work with the broken mower? and how did you turn over all the soil? just a spade? that's a lot of work! i wish i had that big yard.

two more things--get a couple bags of the composted manure from the hardware store and work it into your plots. it's cheap and just smells like dirt. also, it's important to mulch the plots to keep in moisture. hay is cheap and works well.

shutting up now.
